71. Score over 200 at Bowling

10th August 2014

With a previous highest score of 161 and with James' having the family record of 201, i decided i wanted to also score a 200 and try to break the record.
On this sunday some of the people from the gym organise a bowling afternoon. So we headed out to AMF Moorrabbin for what ended up being 3 games. After a slow start i started to get some strike but mixed in with a ones that slid across the face and only got a decent score of 6 or 7 due to the speed.

The first game ended with a score of 116. This was followed by a score of 124 then the best game with finished with 2 strikes sandwiched by 2 half strikes to finish the game and finished with a score of 161. Matched with my best score but still 39 short of the goal.

16 Design and Get Tattoo

5th November 2013

After thinking of several ideas of tattoos and what type of tattoo to have including different animals, I decided i wanted a message to myself that reminded me to take charge of my own life and try to live everyday as well as possible.

For location i decided to have it located on my forearm on the outside so i could see it as a reminder everyday.

Here is the final and finished product after a few weeks to let it finalise and heal.

I actually have further plans for more tattoos but will prioritise some other activities on the list before doing so.

66. Get Professional Shave

11th January 2014

After 3 months of growing the beard and cultivating a beard i was surprised that it was fairly smooth and not itchy and looked reasonably good after a trim but decided it was time to go and decided to finish with a fine British tradition of a professional shave.

After the 3 months this was the final beard.

I found a Barber's that offered in South Yarra called King's Domain.

It offered the full service shave including hot towels to loosen up the skin and clear the pores and the full cut throat razor. I was a little disappointed that the initial shave was with an electric razor which cleared the majority of the hair but it was probably better as shaving that much may have been painful. It started with the shave with the electric razor (a very fancy quality electric razor). The came a series of hot towels.

After the hot towels came the shave with the cut throat razor. Was enjoyable as a one-off experience it was a weird sensation having someone else manipulate your skin and getting you to do all the facial movements that you normally do automatically whilst shaving. Was not a relaxing as just sitting back and being shaved but was well worth investing in at least once in your life to get the feeling.

Finished off with some shaving creams and scents and the shave was complete. Felt very smooth and soft after and a little delicate to touch for the next few hours.

18. Attempt 5 Food Challenges - Part 3. Eat all the Gelato Flavours at Gelato Messina in 1 sitting

1 July 2014

Whilst not exactly an official challenge I was given the idea by 'The Urban List' ( http://www.theurbanlist.com/melbourne/a-list/50-things-do-melbourne-under-50 ) and decided to create my own sweet challenge that I had been looking for.

I will therefore be attempting to eat all the Gelato flavours at Gelato Messina in one sitting (not including Sorbet). At the moment the website lists 24 different signature flavours and 6 weekly changing specials. So 30 flavours and 30 scoops to be eaten and completed.

I will organise details in the next week or so but let me know if u would like to join either for casual ice cream or to join the challenge.

27 July 2014

On a surprisingly sunny and warm Sunday afternoon we headed North to Gelato Messina for my third food challenge on my list. I was joined by 5 friends who had come to support and sample (albeit a lesser amount of the top rated Ice Cream in Melbourne). After everyone arrived we had to wait in the surprisingly long queue as i clearly underestimated how popular the Smith Street ice cream bar would be on a Sunday afternoon in winter at 230pm with a little bit of sunshine.

After waiting for a little while i presented the waiting girl with the bowl i specifically bought from home (a giant mixing bowl). After a look of shock and laughter she realised i was serious in my request to eat 1 of every Gelato flavour and looked nervous on how to proceed. She finally returned with her manager who took control, offered the use of the blast freezer to cool the bowl for additional time before the ice cream would melt.

After 5 minutes in the blast freezer he returned with the bowl and proceeded to scoop the flavours into the bowl. I had returned to the table before being presented with the full scale of my challenge at which point he stated that he had unhelpfully added some additional scoops to the mixing bowl despite my explanation of the challenge (the one time I haven't wanted free additional ice cream).

As such the bowl had the 30 scoops of ice cream plus by own estimation we counted 4 double ups of flavours. With the estimated 34 scoops (and over 5L of ice cream) the giant mixing bowl was nearly full of ice cream and represented a challenge.

Again not sure why they included 8 spoons as it was just me and i had bought with me a proper desert spoon for proper eating. Starting slow but steady i made good progress through the mountain of ice cream as the timer slower ticked along and amongst looks and comment of amazement, disgust and wonder including my favourite of a man who just announced 'holy f*cking sh*t' as he walked behind me and saw the half finished contents of my bowl.

After a while the size, creaminess, surprising chunks of ingredients and a terrible hunched seating position around the low table took it toll on my speed and finally my ability to consume anything further. With the consistency turning to soup and my stomach close to bursting i was forced to give up my attempt about 5 scoops short of my goal by a particularly overpowering coffee ice cream hit (my least favourite flavour). I had been beaten and broken just short of my goal and was forced to tip the remaining soup like ice cream away.

As an aside note this was amazingly good ice cream with proper hits of real flavour using real ingredients rather than syrups or pastes. My favourite was one of the weekly specials - Rococo, a mix of chocolate, honey and coconut gelato with pieces of crunchy sticky nougat although it would be hard to go wrong with any flavours.

64. Grow a Beard

Commencing 17th October 2013

One of the items on my list was about the easiest to achieve by just stopping shaving but require timing it with Movember to give me at least a semi excuse for having extensive facial hair whilst at work. I started the process whilst on a long weekend in Brisbane and was looking to grow for the next 2 months in the lead up to Christmas.

This will be finished up with another of the relatively easier challenges - '66. Get Professional Shave'.

Week 3

After 3 weeks there was some decent growth and i trimmed the neck and cheeks.

Week 7
7 weeks in and some trimming has been required to keep it relatively neat but very decent growth and a complete beard.

Week 8

Week 9
Getting towards the end of the beard growing session and a very decent beard going on. Despite some approval from friends and co-workers (although others have been less enthused by the beard) the plan is to still shave it off after Christmas.

Week 12

5/1 Looking pretty epic but slightly uneven.

8th January 2014 - Last day of full beard. For some reason the beard grew more on one side.

This is the result after a fairly decent trim back to a professional, respectable length. This may be the last image of the beard as I am due to have the professional shave and will book in over the next week.

The beard is finally gone after nearly 3 months with the professional shave on 11th January.

1. Own a Home

30th July 2013

After many, many months of searching and questions from friends and work colleagues about whether I had found a place to buy yet, I finally purchased and moved into my first home. Located in Clayton South in a smallish complex of about 30 town houses/apartments I purchase a 2 bedroom, 1 Bathroom split level apartment.

Bedroom

 Bathroom

Upstairs Hallway

Stairs

Second Downstairs Bedroom / Now Living room

Living Room

Kitchen

Balcony

Although fairly new it does require some additional tweaks, adjustments and fixes. I also need to decide on some additional purchases especially in the now empty living area / kitchen after I decided to use the second bedroom as my living room. I also am planning on a kitchen island for food preparation and thanks to Em and Matt i have a freedom voucher for additional furniture.

The final configuration and look of the place will be settled in time (although my mum would prefer sooner and has already offered her services to plan and make changes to the place now that she has finalised the plans for her house) but for now I am happy to live in a place that is all my own and to be taking the first step on the property ladder.
